Seiko Optical Products Co., Ltd. (President; Takashi Wakuyama, Head Office: Chuo Ward, Tokyo) will start accepting orders simultaneously nationwide from April 1 for plastic lenses that have adopted variable light technology developed by Transitions Optical Inc. The seven designs will come in two colors each, so there will be a total of fourteen options available.
Seiko’s new ‘Transitions’ series has been given the ‘Transitions (R) VI’ treatment, which is the sixth generation of ‘Transitions (R)’ for Seiko’s plastic lenses, and these photochromic lenses offer better vision than previous generations. The lens density automatically changes depending on the amount of ultraviolet rays. These lenses cut out almost 100% of harmful ultraviolet rays, reduces glare caused by visible rays and increase the visual quality. Furthermore, the color fading speed*1 is fast and so they can be used as everyday lenses. In addition, ‘Transitions (R) VI’ has an even higher coloring density outdoors than traditional lenses*2 and has achieved high transparency indoors.
The basic design of these multifocal lenses that form the basis of this new series was launched for the first time worldwide by Seiko. This design has since continued to be improved upon. as individual lenses that use ‘Back-surface progressive + Back-surface Aspheric Design’ and we are now launching two multifocal tailor made lens designs, three multifocal custom made lens designs and one custom made age related design. In addition, an aspheric single-focus lens design will also be released. Each of these designs will come in brown and gray and so in total there are seven designs and fourteen options that are being launched.
The Japanese photochromic lens market is continuing to grow steadily. ★The density change varies depending on factors such as the power of the ultraviolet rays, the weather conditions and the materials of the lenses. In particular, in summertime when there are high temperatures (30℃ or over), it depends on the usage and environmental conditions, but there is a trend for the lenses to be considerably lighter than the original color density.
★In recent cars, ultraviolet ray reduction treatment has been applied to the windshield and other windows, so the lens color may not change inside the car when driving.
